5 Start of Summer Gear Essentials

5 Start of Summer Gear Essentials

Last month was a big month for camping. Not only was it National Camping Week (from June 21st to June 27th) but it also marked the first day of Summer on June 20th. It's the time of the year we’ve all been waiting for - and we're stirring up our closets and gear sheds in anticipation.

Stumped on what essentials you might be forgetting? Let’s dive into a list of some that we’ll be packing up - whether you’re in it for the long haul or just pulling up to a site for a few nights by the fire.

Yosemite National Park

1) American Backcountry - National Park Heritage Line

Looking for the best way to show some love to your favorite trail or National Park close to home? This line of designs will hit every mark. Born on the trail 30 years ago, the line has become a staple at many National Parks shops for the trail-ready designs and performance materials. The heritage line is manufactured using 100% spun polyester and delivers the look and feel of organic cotton and the wickability of advanced poly-performance fibers. The garment features 100% moisture wicking polyester with built-to-last sustainable materials. They’ve got some of the fastest drying times in the industry, permanent moisture transport technology, keeping you feeling dry. It also boasts built-in anti-Microbial and anti-stain features with no chafing or irritation. These soft and pliable shirts will keep you cool and dry for whatever ventures the day may hold.

2) Therm-A-Rest - Uno Chair

This chair has been a backyard staple for as long as we can remember - it’s perfectly lightweight, packable and super convenient. It’s great for any outdoor outing or campfire, and will fit super snug in your trunk or backpack - bring a few extras for your friends! Ditch clunky folding seats that take up space and are a pain to carry on long distances - the Uno’s got you covered. Happen to pack an extra one of these bad boys? Convert it into a side table by simply taking off the seating fabric and flipping it upside down - boom, set down your speaker or plate. 7000 series aluminum poles and strong Therm-A-Rest material allow it to withstand up to 250 lbs. Still, try to be gentle with it even after a few brews.

3) Mountain Safety Research - Mutha Hubba NX 3-Person Tent

MSR’s Hubba line features top notch design and materials that are built for long treks. Weighing in about 4lbs, the Mutha Hubba packs super light while maintaining spacious comfort for up to three people inside. It features the nearly indestructible Easton Cyclone Poles made with aerospace composite materials - wind and storms won’t stand a chance. Speaking of storms, the exterior features an Xtreme Shield Waterproof coating that’s ultra durable and lasts up to three times longer than traditional coatings. What sets the line apart from others is the unified hub-and-pole system - even a novice could put this thing together in a matter of minutes.

4) Northbound Gear - Explorer Pants

Northbound makes tough, built-to-last gear that truly stands the test of time. These rugged summer adventure pants are perfectly flexible while being waterproof, breathable and moisture wicking. Perfect match for your American Backcountry Heritage Tee! Stain and tear resistant, the four zippered pockets give you plenty of options for keeping your phone and other belongings safe and dry. All of these awesome features, and it’s still boasting UPF 30+ sun protection. Being from Washington, I will absolutely be sure to have this in my inventory on my West Coast excursions this summer! Local residents will know that our climate throws anything at you, whenever it wants.

5) La Sportiva - Pyramid GTX

La Sportiva engineers high quality outdoor gear, from bouldering to thru-hiking. The Pyramid GTX are some of the best hiking boots you can find for the hotter seasons. 360 degrees of Gore-Tex surround let your feet breathe while also being expertly shielded from the elements and any trying terrain. Durable, abrasion resistant Nubuck leather will keep these things trucking for as long as you can go. The breathability comes from the Nano Cell 2.0 structure providing aeration channels in the footbed and midsole. Its Vibram XS Trek outsole provides trusty traction and grip for inclines and paths that put them to the test.

With this lineup, you can take any unexpected trek nature throws at you, or lounge comfortably around the campfire without a worry. These are just a few of the essentials that'll help us make the start of summer and National Camping Week one of the best yet. Let us know your favorites and other essentials in the comments.
